Care for Your Hoop

Helpful tips for keeping your hoop in good condition:

  • Do not yank or pull on the hoop
  • Do not hoop on rough surfaces such as concrete or blacktop, (especially when first learning how) as it will tear up the decorative tape when hitting the ground.
  • Make sure there is enough space around you for the hoop to rotate without hitting sharp edges of walls, furniture or trinkets.
  • When not in use, store your hoop in a cool place out of the sun. If your hoop becomes slightly warped, place in warm room or on warm asphalt, then reshape the hoop by shaping or hooping with it.

What Size Hoop is Right for You

If you are not sure what size or weight hoop you need, the average person generally uses a hoop that measures about an inch or two above the belly button. If you are having difficulty keeping it going, you should select a larger hoop. A first time user will many times start with a larger hoop  and progress towards a lighter, smaller hoop as their skill levels improve.            "Our hoops come in many sizes and weights . . . just like the people that use them."

Keep in mind:

  • Bigger hoops move slower, so they give you more time to coordinate your movements.
  • Smaller hoops require more effort because you have to move faster to keep them going.
This can provide more of a workout but it can also be more challenging when learning new moves.

Weighted hoops create more inertia, which is a fancy word to describe that once you spin the hoop around your body, it will be easier to keep it going. In other words . . . the bigger the hoop, the heavier the hoop, the easier it will be to go around your body.

Our wide selection of hoops allows almost everyone the ability to enjoy hooping (even if you were never able to do it before). There is no perfect way to determine the perfect size, as we are all unique with different abilities and body sizes. When you find the correct size, you will know, it just feels right!

People who want to hoop for exercise, keep in mind:

  • A light hoop may be more difficult to use initially because it forces you to move faster.
  • Heavier hoops have a slower rotation so you are going to have to work harder to get the speed up. (Heavier hoops will cause more initial bruising)

Caution to Hoop Users:

Due to strong impact directly to the abdominal and other body muscles, new users may experience bruising and some soreness in the first couple weeks of use. Please start with gentle exercise. If you have a medical condition of concern, speak with your physician prior to using this product.
