    World Hoop Day

September 9, 2009
in Green Bay, WI
a huge success.

Hooked on Hooping  kicked off a community health initiative on World Hoop Day to address the issue of childhood obesity.
The initiative is targeted at getting  elementary school children actively moving during recess by providing hoops for them. Since many school districts have tight budget constraints, we are asking companies, service organizations or parent groups to step forward to purchase discounted hoops from us for their school or youth organization of choice.
You might wonder, why do they need our  hoops? We provide a variety of sizes and weights in our packages. In particular, heavy children need weighted hoop so they can hoop successfully. In addition to providing hoops, we also include an assembly for the students on safety, proper sizing and skills they can learn. A training session is also provided for school staff, and a hoop event for the sponsors. Bellin Health stepped forward as the first corporate sponsor with hoops for Chappell and Kennedy Elementary Schools. We hope you will join them in sponsoring a school.  Check out the "Hoops 4 Kids" tab for more information

Riverview Early Childhood Center's 5-year-old kindergarten students participated in the "hoops 4 kids" get fit - have fun program with hoop's instructor Mary Pulak in the gym on Thursday morning. The school has purchased hula hoops for the students to use at recess, as well as before and after school. The Hooping program is just one more way to help their students fight childhood obesity and stay active. Sue Pischke/HTR January 21, 2010
