Roxann Rose of the United States hooped for 90 hours straight between April 2 and April 6, 1987.

In April 2008, Team Hooprama hula hooped the Music City Half-Marathon (13.1 miles).

The record for simultaneous hula-hooping (minimum time: 2 minutes) is for 2,290 participants at Chung Cheng Stadium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on October 28, 2000.

You don't have to be quite that ambitious at first. But if you want to hoop understand first of all that (hoop) size matters. Second, once inside the hoop, put it against your lower back and give it a firm push in your fave direction. Gently rock from side to side, or forward and back. Massive hip gyrations serve only to amuse onlookers (although they do burn many more calories). From there, the sky is the limit. Start experimenting.

You can order a hoop from Hooked On Hooping for less than $50, depending on your hoop requirements.

Throughout the country, there are many hoop exercise classes ... "hoop dance," "hula hoop exercise" or hoops incorporated into zumba, belly dance and general fitness classes.
